Mick

Michael Neil Karbula, known to friends and family fondly as "Mick" was diagnosed with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer in the spring of 2016, and succumbed to his battle with lung cancer Sunday, November 20, 2016, surrounded by his family.

Mick was born to Albert and Hazel Karbula in Mansfield, Ohio, on May 20, 1957. He graduated from Lexington High School and began his 40-year career with Pittsburgh Plate Glass in Crestline, Ohio, in which he advanced from general laborer to Quality Control Engineer and finally, Corporate Quality Representative. He graduated from Franklin University with honors earning a Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering while raising his four young children.

Those who knew him remember Mick as a loyal friend, respected co-worker and a man devoted to his family. Mick's greatest pride in life and his legacy are his four children. His proudest moments were sharing and celebrating their accomplishments and achievements.

An avid skier and golfer, Mick enjoyed all time spent outdoors. In the springtime, his hunt for morel mushrooms was fanatical, and he spent many hours in wooded areas throughout Ohio and Michigan. His summers were spent on Twin Lakes Golf Course with his golf league, The Lounge Lizards (for which he served as President for several years,) and the winters were spent at Snow Trails with his friends and children.

Mick was a life-long collector of rocks. Prior to his illness, Mick and two of his children made an expedition of national parks throughout the western United States on a memorable two-week trek that took them through 17 states, and collecting several dozen rocks along the way which returned with him to Ohio. A few of those treasured rocks now adorn his grave site.
